Russell Westbrook Interview

Part 1

What would you do if you were a 6’-3” combo guard with super game but during your Senior season of high school, you weren’t getting the type of love from college coaches that your game demanded? What would you do if whilst on your way to visit another school, your phone rang and the voice on the other end was a UCLA basketball coach? What would you do if he told you that he wanted you to be a Bruin? For Russell Westbrook, that answer was simple.  Make a U-turn and dip back to Westwood faster then Tyus went up the court against Mizzou in the ’95 tourney.  Bruin fans were a little nervous when Jordan Farmar declared for the NBA Draft following the ’05-’06 season (that turned out to be a very solid decision thus far), but his departure opened up a scholarship and allowed Westbrook to bring his multi-faceted game to Westwood. We caught up with the Sophomore to talk about his transition into college, and to see what it's like playing with standout guard Darren Collison and playing for Coach Ben Howland….

Part 2westbrook2

In part 2 of our 3 part series, Russell talks about his most memorable moment this season- the “Dunk” on former Indiana guard Roderick Wilmont during a fast break in the 2nd-round game of the NCAA tourney at Arco in Sac-Town. There was only one thing we could say after witnessing that bang-on- “Whipe his faceeeeeee!!!!”. He also tells us about the toughest competition that he’s faced thus far in his basketball career, and the answer is quite interesting we must admit…

He may be a youngster but he has great taste in movies and the type of girls he likes as well. He also talks about his favorite rapper in the game right now and his definition of “Swag” --and he’s not talking about free merchandise or whack wacky tobaccky….
